About Me

I started making jewelry when I took a silversmithing class in High School.
I was only 15 years old, but I knew
that making jewelry was something I really wanted to do.
I enjoyed making jewelry so much that I decided to pursue
it in college. I now have a BFA in Metalsmithing and
Jewelry Design from the University of Kansas.

I started selling my work at Arts and Crafts Shows and Fine Art
Shows in 1987. I was doing 25 shows a year and was
successful in selling my work, but I was growing weary of
the show circuit and looking for a more permanent place to
showcase my work. I had always dreamed of having my own
store and in 2004 I opened the store Jewelry By Julie at
19 West 9th St. in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas. Now I only
show my work at 5 shows a year.

Most of my jewelry designs are made from sterling silver and genuine
gemstones, such as Amethyst, Lapis, Jade, Turquoise,
Black Onyx. I have always been intrigued with gemstones
and their wide range of colors, patterns and textures.
Many times I will find an interesting stone and design a
piece around it. Many of my pieces are one of a kind.
This website shows only a small portion of what I have in
